Stories we need to see:
A Strong Black Thriller. Is it me, or is anyone else waiting for Denzel and Lawrence to do a "Face Off" type movie? These two together would be dynamite.
A Good Hip Hop Story. ("8 Mile" was cool, though honestly I could not stay awake for it and let's be real, hip hop is farrrrrrr more complicated than that and there are hip hop stories out there that are far more compelling than the white boy who couldn't -- I have nothing against Eninem, I happen to think he's very talented, it's just the realist in me that knows his story got made because he's a white boy in a predominantly black art form. But, hey, so's P. Diddy if you think about it. Not too many young, black Record CEOs in the Music Business and "The Fugees" story alone could blow "8-Mile" to the wind!)
A Solid Black Love Story that actually has a story we'd care about. "Mahagony" update anyone? For some reason, modern movies about a black man and woman falling in love mainly deal with "social issues", a gimmick, or great lighting. Be nice to see more stories about the complexities and internal roadblocks of just dealing with love, not just canned versions of the same 'movies.
No More...roles where Black Men are: perfect but flawless; only there because the film needed diversity; constantly making himself the 'black of the joke'; never dating or only lusting after the white, female co-star; never having a backstory, just existing; or are the most intellectual, but boring person in the story and last but not least, killed in the first 5 minutes, especially if/when he is the most talented and interesting to watch in the entire movie -- and as old as this last cliche is...it still rings true.
